Robert Heard
Inducted in the Class of 2005.
Robert Heard played two seasons for the Columbus College basketball team. In the 1977-78 season, Heard was named co-captain of the team and he was voted the South Atlantic Conference Most Valuable Player. During his career as a Columbus College Cougar, he set the record for field goal accuracy, hitting 57.2%. His career high scoring game was 31 points against Armstrong State at Savannah on January 23, 1978. His career high rebounding game came against Heritage College of Florida November 25, 1977.
Heard was selected in the sixth round of the National Basketball Association draft by the Denver Nuggets and later coached as a graduate assistant to Frank Y. "Sonny" Clements at Columbus College. His son, Robert Heard Jr., then a student at Columbus State University accepted the awards for his Dad at the 2005 investiture ceremony.
